The Morning After Pill
The morning after pill contains the same hormone as regular birth control pills, but the dosage prescribed is several times the strength of a daily birth control pill.
Plan B works like a birth control pill.
There are three ways a birth control pill can work:
Approximately 1 out of 4 women studied experience menstrual bleeding and nausea. Approximately 1 out of 5 women studied experience abdominal pain, fatigue and headache.
Also, you may be at an increased risk of having an Ectopic pregnancy should you take the morning after pill and become pregnant. Ectopic pregnancy can be, on rare occasions, fatal if you are not able to identify it and get medical attention immediately.
MAP is not 100% effective in preventing pregnancy.
Because this pill is simply a high dose or regular birth control, women who rely on the morning-after pill can develop a desensitization to their birth control leading to a high-risk of future pregnancies.
Some common questions still needing study and how Plan B can affect women include:
Effects on women under the age of sixteen
Effects when interacting with other drugs
Effects on people with preexisting medical conditions
Effects on women and ovulation and fertility
Effects on fetal growth and development
Only eight out of one hundred women will become pregnant after a single act of intercourse during the time of ovulation. The caring people at Alternatives are available to answer your questions and help you make an informed decision.
